Rupert Grint to Star in "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman"
Posted by Mariam - 21 May 2012
Rupert Grint has reportedly signed on to a new crime drama, called The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. The Collider has a synopsis of the film's plot:
Charlie Countryman (LaBeouf) was just a normal guy…until he fell in love with the one girl who will probably get him killed. When Charlie meets the absolutely irresistible Gabi she’s already been claimed by Nigel, an insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal. Armed with little more than his wit and naïve charm, Charlie endures one bruising beat down after another to woo Gabi and keep her out of harm’s way. Finally his exploits of blind valor create such a mess that he’s left with only one way out; to save the girl of his dreams, must Charlie Countryman die?
Rupert's character is so far unnamed. The film, which also stars actors Shia Labeouf, Mads Mikkelsen, Melissa Leo and others, will begin filming in Romania next week.
St. Andrews University Holding Literary Conference to Study Harry Potter books
Posted by Victoria - 18 May 2012
BBC News reports that St. Andrews University in Scotland will be holding a literary conference for more than 60 top academics, about the themes and effects of the Harry Potter novels, over the course of the next two days. Lecture topics from over 50 scholars will include ideas from the books such as how themes of British identity or death, are dealt with in the series. The conference has been put together by John Patrick Pazdziora from the University's School of English and Father Micah Snell from the University's Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts (ITIA).
Pazdziora says: "We can't avoid the fact that Harry Potter is the main narrative experience of an entire generation - the children who literally grew up with Harry Potter.
"The Harry Potter novels are simply the most important and influential children's books of the late-20th and early 21st Centuries." Adds keynote speaker, John Granger: "I take exception to the unexamined and misinformed assumption that the books are light on literary merit. Ms Rowling's works are comic, certainly, but it's a great mistake to think they're simple or haphazard story-telling."
