For the Guangdong team, which invested heavily during the offseason, this season has been a major disappointment. Having failed to meet their goals, the team now faces a rebuild, and there are three underperforming players who must be removed. First is newly signed big foreign player Lakoshevich, who has been virtually nonexistent on the court—ineffective on offense and even less reliable on defense. Guangdong needs a blue-collar interior player who can battle for rebounds and protect the rim, but Lakoshevich clearly doesn’t fit the bill. The second is small foreign player McColl. With Quinn and Samner already on the roster, Guangdong needs to bring in a foreign big man instead. The third is Wang Shaojie. Frankly speaking, Wang has played hard over the past two seasons and earned respect from Guangdong fans. However, the reality is that Guangdong needs a true center, and with his improvement, Beikong will likely want him back. The most frustrating issue for fans, however, is head coach Du Feng, who must be dismissed. Holding multiple roles simultaneously, he cannot fully focus on the team’s needs.
